The Smithy in Graveyard Keeper 2

The Smithy most players mean is the Factory station, not the Town shop — and it never appears at your Yard building desk, because it only exists inside the huge underground Factory below your base. Unlocking Smithy I costs 75 red and 20 blue points one step past Iron Smithing, and once the frame is standing a zombie works it for you.

The Graveyard Keeper 2 smithy, in four points

Two buildings share the name, and only one of them is the station you researched. Every figure below comes from community material, tagged with its source and date rather than stated as a game fact.

Reported guide data

Deux bâtiments s’appellent la Forge

The Factory Smithy is a crafting station a zombie works, inside the underground Factory below your base. The Town Smithy is a shop with a trader, on a Workshop Courtyard plot in town, behind the Artisans I research. They share a name and nothing else.

Reported guide data

Il n’apparaît jamais au bureau du Yard

Because it is a Factory station rather than a Yard one, the Smithy only appears at the building desk inside the Factory. If the research is bought and the Yard desk still does not list it, you have not reached the Factory yet — that is the whole of the problem the guide page is answering.

Community wiki data

Smithy I is 75 red and 20 blue, past Iron Smithing

The community wiki tree prices the node at 75 red and 20 blue points and the guide repeats it; the build adds 6 Reinforced Plank, 4 Bronze Detail and 4 Bronze Gear, and the frame is finished with a Hammer at Building mastery 4.

Reported guide data

Fonctionne au charbon, pas au carburant, un zombie y travaille

The smelting recipes take Coal rather than the Fuel a furnace burns, materials arrive on Conveyor Belts, and those belts are driven by zombies on a Zombie Carousel. You cannot work a Factory station yourself.

Factory or Town

Which Smithy you actually want

The mix-up is not cosmetic. The two buildings have different research, different locations and different products, and only one of them is the station in the Metallurgy tree — which is why a player who bought the research can own the wrong one entirely.

The point costs in this table are community wiki data, unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026. The descriptions — what each building is, where it stands and who staffs it — come from the guide page, reported and unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026, because the wiki tree never mentions a town-facing Smithy or where either building is placed. The guide opens by saying that players unlocked “the Smithy” and then found nowhere to build it, and that in half of those cases the problem was that the game has two of them.

Where and how

Where the Smithy goes, and how you reach the Factory

None of this can be done from the surface. The Factory is the big hall under the base, with a stockpile for each raw resource and a broken Zombie Carousel waiting to be repaired, and the guide names two ways in.

Reported guide data

Down through your own basement

Go down to the basement under your house and clear the blockage that leads south. The guide prices that at 1 Reinforced Beam and 4 Iron Detail, which makes it the cheaper of the two openings.

Reported guide data

In from the Forest, through the Old Mine

The Old Mine already connects to the same tunnels, but the guide says its entrance needs Dynamite. That route is about opening an existing passage rather than finding one.

Reported guide data

Dégage le chemin avant de planifier l’agencement

Once inside, clear the rubble and repair the broken floor sections before deciding where anything goes. A ladder links the Factory to the work area above, and clearing every blockage between the mine and your basement is also what unlocks the Zombie Mining stations.

The two entrances, the reinforcement cost and the ladder all come from one guide page: reported, unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026. Nothing in the supplied material says how much rubble has to be cleared, how long the tunnel run is, or whether both entrances open onto the same hall.

Tier I

Unlocking Smithy I, founding it, and what it makes

The community wiki tree prices every node on the way to the Smithy, and the guide page describes the same route in passing: Iron Forge first, then Iron Smithing, then the Smithy itself, one step after the research that gives you the Iron Anvil.

1

Iron Forge — 35 red

The entry point of the iron chain and the node that also hands over the Iron Ingot recipe, the Supply: Iron crate and Furnace II. It sits one step past Bronze Polishing.

2

Iron Smithing — 50 red

Smithy I’s direct prerequisite, and the node the guide describes as giving you the Iron Anvil. Red points are cheap here; the bill stays in red all the way to the Smithy.

3

Smithy I — 75 red and 20 blue

The node that unlocks the Brick and Glass recipes as well as the Smithy I blueprint. Blue is the slow point here: the guide notes that red piles up quickly in the midgame while almost every Factory research from this point on asks for blue as well.

4

Smithy: Hammer — 80 red and 30 blue

A separate node behind Smithy I. The tree lists it as unlocking Iron Ingot, Iron Kit I and the Smithy: Hammer extension, and the guide states plainly that the Smithy cannot make Iron Ingot without it.

What you put downWhat it takesWhat it asks of you
Smithy I6 Reinforced Plank, 4 Bronze Detail, 4 Bronze GearPlace the frame at the Factory building desk, then finish it with a Hammer at Building mastery 4
FootprintA 6 x 6 areaIts extensions need room around them, so do not box it in with conveyors before you know which ones you want
Community wiki data

Tier I makes Brick and Glass

Both come off the same station, and both are listed as Smithy I unlocks by the wiki tree. Brick feeds later builds; Glass is the input behind the alchemy side of the game rather than the metal side.

Community wiki data

The Hammer is what turns it into a smelter

The tree gives Smithy: Hammer the Iron Ingot and Iron Kit I recipes along with the extension itself. Read together with the guide’s sentence about the Ingot recipe, the extension rather than the station is the gate on iron production.

Creator video

Glass has a money route of its own

One creator video turns Glass into Alchemy Flasks at the laboratory station, stacks them to 99 and sells the stack at the NPC trade for money. It quotes no price and no smithy figure, so it is evidence that the Glass recipe matters rather than evidence of what it is worth.

Community wiki data

Later extensions hang off other nodes

Smithy: Bellows is 90 red and 20 blue off Smithy: Hammer, unlocking Tableware and Glass Containers. Smithy: Grindstone and Smithy: Press are not Smithy I nodes at all: the tree unlocks them from Steel Works and Lenses, 175 red and 20 blue each, both of which sit behind Smithy II.

The two written sources describe that Hammer differently, and the difference is worth keeping. The wiki tree treats Smithy: Hammer as an ordinary 80 red and 30 blue node that unlocks Iron Ingot, Iron Kit I and the extension. The guide page states that the Smithy cannot make Iron Ingot without it, which reads as a hard dependency rather than a price. Both are reproduced here as given — community wiki data and reported guide data, unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026.

Tier II and the line

Smithy II, Clay Molds, and how the Smithy is fed

Tier II is the only station that makes Clay Molds, and it arrives late: its research sits behind Steel Casting, which sits behind Steel Smithing and 70 reputation with Jack. Keeping it running is a separate job from researching it.

Community wiki data

Smithy II — 160 red and 20 blue

The node needs Steel Casting (150 red, 20 blue), which itself needs Steel Smithing (120 red, 15 blue) behind the Jack 70 reputation gate. The tree lists Clay Molds, Iron Kit II and the Smithy II blueprint among the unlocks.

Reported guide data

Clay Molds are the reason to build it

The guide calls Smithy II the only station that makes Clay Molds, and states that without Clay Molds there is no Iron Kit II — so tier II is a prerequisite for the kit rather than an upgrade to an existing recipe.

Reported guide data

What tier II costs to stand up

6 Reinforced Beam, 12 Steel Screws and 4 Engineering Details, finished the same way as tier I: place the frame, then bring a Hammer at Building mastery 4. Steel Screws and Engineering Details come off the Steel Smithing and Steel Casting nodes, so the bill and the research are the same line.

Reported guide data

Only a zombie can work it

The guide is explicit that you cannot work a Factory station yourself and that a zombie works the Smithy for you. That puts the worker’s mastery, not yours, in charge of the recipe list, which is the same rule the iron page applies to the Ingot recipe.

Tier II does not change how the station runs, and the station does not run like a furnace. Coal, belts, a powered carousel and a worker on the station all have to line up before it produces anything at all.

Reported guide data

Coal, not Fuel

The Smithy does not burn Fuel: its smelting recipes take Coal instead, which is what separates it from a furnace such as Furnace II. That makes the coal supply, rather than the firewood supply, the thing to plan around.

Reported guide data

Conveyor Belts from the stockpiles

Materials reach the Smithy on Conveyor Belts, and the guide’s advice is to run them straight from the resource stockpiles so that nobody carries crates through the Factory by hand.

Community wiki data

A Zombie Carousel drives the belts

The belts are powered by zombies on a Zombie Carousel, so the line moves without you standing in it. The tree unlocks the Carousel from the Zombie Gears node at 90 red and 20 blue points, one node past Smithy: Hammer.

Reported guide data

A zombie works the station

You cannot work a Factory station yourself; a zombie works the Smithy for you. A finished Smithy with no worker on it and no powered belts is a building that produces nothing.

Reported guide data

Coal comes from the Zombie Miner

The Zombie Miner is the coal source, and the Zombie Mining stations unlock once every blockage between the Old Mine and your basement has been cleared. The material gives no coal-per-batch figure for the Smithy itself.

The two written sources agree on tier I’s price, on the build materials and on Clay Molds belonging to tier II, so they are quoted side by side above rather than played off against each other. Where they run out is the guide’s own recipe tables and its Smithy-versus-Furnace-II comparison, neither of which was captured — which is why the list below stays open. The creator video contributes no smithy figure at all, no price and no point cost, and is cited only for where its glass goes. Community wiki data and reported guide data, unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026.

What is still unknown

The Smithy is one of the better-priced upgrades in the material and still leaves the operational half of the page open, because the guide’s tables were not captured.

  • What the Smithy produces per batch. The guide has sections for tier I recipes, tier II-only recipes and extensions, but their contents were not captured, so no coal-per-batch, batch time or output count is stated — unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026.
  • Whether the Smithy or Furnace II should smelt your iron. The guide has a section comparing the two for Iron Ingot and it was not captured; the tree lists Iron Ingot as a Smithy: Hammer unlock and stops there.
  • What mastery a zombie needs to work the Smithy. The guide cuts off mid-sentence at “you can’t work a Factory station yourself, so the mastery number…” — the Building mastery 4 above is for finishing the frame, not for running the station.
  • Whether the 6 x 6 footprint includes the extensions, and how much room each extension needs around it.
  • What Smithy: Grindstone and Smithy: Press do. The tree unlocks them from Steel Works and Lenses without naming a recipe for either one.
  • What the Town Smithy trader stocks, and what the new Town orders pay. The guide names both without a stock list or a price.
  • Whether Artisans I (75 red, 25 green) sits on the Metallurgy tree or a separate one, and whether the two Smithies share a single recipe.
  • How much of the tree’s 3,680 red, 330 green and 340 blue points the Smithy line accounts for, and whether a patch has moved these costs since the two pages were written.

Questions

Graveyard Keeper 2 smithy questions

Which Smithy does Graveyard Keeper 2 mean?

Two buildings carry the name. The Factory Smithy is the crafting station a zombie works, researched with Smithy I at 75 red and 20 blue points, and it is the one the Metallurgy tree means. The Town Smithy is a shop with a trader on a Workshop Courtyard plot in town, behind Artisans I at 75 red and 25 green, which pays out a metal trader and new Town orders. If you researched Smithy I and the Yard desk will not list it, you want the Factory one — reported guide data, unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026.

Where do you build the Smithy, and why is it not at the Yard desk?

Inside the underground Factory below your base, because it is a Factory station rather than a Yard one, so it only appears at the building desk in there. The guide describes players who unlocked it and then found nowhere to build it. The two ways in are the basement of your house, where the blockage south costs 1 Reinforced Beam and 4 Iron Detail, or the Old Mine from the Forest, whose entrance needs Dynamite.

How do you unlock Smithy I, and what does it cost to build?

Iron Forge at 35 red, then Iron Smithing at 50 red, then Smithy I at 75 red and 20 blue — one step after the research that gives you the Iron Anvil. Building it takes 6 Reinforced Plank, 4 Bronze Detail and 4 Bronze Gear: place the frame at the Factory building desk and finish it with a Hammer at Building mastery 4. It needs a 6 x 6 area with room around it for the extensions, all of it community wiki and reported guide data, unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026.

What can Smithy I make, and what does Smithy: Hammer add?

Tier I unlocks the Brick and Glass recipes. Smithy: Hammer is a separate node at 80 red and 30 blue points behind it, and the tree lists Iron Ingot, Iron Kit I and the Hammer extension among its unlocks. The guide goes further and says the Smithy cannot make Iron Ingot without it, so both statements are given as written rather than reconciled. Smithy: Bellows, at 90 red and 20 blue off the same node, adds Tableware and Glass Containers.

What do you need for Smithy II, Clay Molds and Iron Kit II?

Smithy II is 160 red and 20 blue points, behind Steel Casting at 150 red and 20 blue, which is behind Steel Smithing at 120 red and 15 blue and the Jack 70 reputation gate. Building it takes 6 Reinforced Beam, 12 Steel Screws and 4 Engineering Details, finished the same way. The guide calls it the only station that makes Clay Molds and says that without Clay Molds there is no Iron Kit II.

Does the Smithy burn Fuel, and how do materials reach it?

It does not burn Fuel: the smelting recipes take Coal. Materials arrive on Conveyor Belts, the belts are driven by zombies on a Zombie Carousel, and one zombie works the station itself. Coal comes from the Zombie Miner, and the Zombie Mining stations unlock once the blockages between the Old Mine and your basement are cleared. Reported guide data, unconfirmed as of October 12, 2026.
